1.02 System Overviewlast updated: 6/3/97The Financial Records System (FRS) is an accounting software package which provides a comprehensive record keeping system and a timely and flexible method for distributing financial information. The system was designed by Information Associates, a company based in New York State. FRS is part of a comprehensive set of software known as Series Z. Series Z is comprised of four systems:
The University of Arizona implemented SIS in 1987. The FRS Accounts Payable and Financial Accounting systems were implemented in 1988. The FRS Purchasing system was implemented in 1989. The Fixed Assets module was implemented in 1992. The University never acquired ADS or HRS. FRS resides on an ES9000 computer. This computer is maintained by CCIT and resides in the Computer Center Building. FRS is an on-line system that allows financial data to be entered directly into the system and to be processed and updated immediately. On-line updating is restricted to authorized data entry areas and personnel. FRS also offers on-line inquiry capabilities. When provided inquiry access to the system, a user can check the current status of an account on-line by accessing the financial data stored in the computer. To request access to FRS, complete a Request for FRS Access form. The Purchasing Module of FRS was modified in 1993 to allow departmental input of Purchase Requistions. For more details, see section 10. FRS is the mainframe accounting system used at the University of Arizona. Section 2 explains the structure of the accounting system in more detail.
