| PURPOSE: |
To provide direction to university departments, staff, facility and visitors on personally
owned equipment that is lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed on the university campus, at
university off-campus facilities and research sites, at university leased facilities and sites, at
non-university facilities, laboratories and research sites, and in university provided
transportation. |

| POLICY: |
The University of Arizona does not accept responsibility for personally owned equipment
that is lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed.
If confusion arises between university and personal ownership, proof of ownership lies
with the individual, not the university. |

| PRIVATE OWNERS |
- Mark the equipment for identification of ownership. The
University Police Department marks personally owned
equipment, if requested.
- Maintain original documents of purchase.
- Provide the department head with a list of personally owned
equipment.
- Provide theft control and security of personally owned
equipment.
- Notify the University Police Department upon discovery of loss,
theft or damage to privately owned- property and make known
the circumstances of the loss and efforts to locate the equipment.

UNIVERSITY POLICE DEPARTMENT |
- Investigate as circumstances require and prepare a police report
detailing the incident.
